We specialize in residential design for new construction, remodeling and additions.

Ken Latham, CPBD, owner of SD & D Designs and Kevin Ambrose, CPBD have achieved the credentials of Certified Professional Building Designer and have over 50 years combined experience in the building industry. Ken has written a structural design examination given nationally by the National Council of Building Designer Certification (NCBDC), and is the a past national vice-president of the organization.

You can feel comfortable knowing we bring a diverse and up to date knowledge to your project. We attend many hours of educational classes, product seminars and architectural tours, in order to have the information you will need to make important decisions during the design process. We even attend the national homebuilders show each year through out the country to keep up to date with the latest products and ideas. In addition, we are able to utilize a wide variety of design resources from many professional builders, product representatives, and cutting edge technologies in the effort to serve you better.

Our philosophy - establish a two-way relationship with each client to define and create a home uniquely fitted to their individual needs. Then develop very accurate contractor friendly construction documents to make sure your dream home will be built as you have expected. Our objective is to meet all of the codes and have the building permit issued on the first submittal.

We are the only design firm in the state of Virginia fortunate enough to have two Certified Professional Building Designers (CPBD) on staff. Most other firms are one man operations which lacks the multiple points of view and can slow the process.

Since 1990 our designs have been built in many well known neighborhoods. Our drawings have been seen in many Parade of Homes over the past 18 years and have won numerous awards. One home won five awards including BEST CURB APPEAL, BEST KITCHEN, GOLD AWARD and REALTORS CHOICE AWARD.
