Class review
March 2009

I have enjoyed John’s classes for years now and believe me they are addictive.

This year I will be retaking Concealed Carry for Self-Defense (DHS-I) with a friend a new shooter and Advanced Defensive Handgun Skills (DHS-II). I stay at the local hotels since I live a few hours away.

My wife understands the classes are to keep my skills from becoming rusty and I always get pleasure from taking part in John’s classes and meeting the other classmates.

My belief is that if I am going to carry a firearm then it is my responsibility to be sure that my proficiency is the best it can be for my safety and yours. To me having a “concealed handgun permit” and carrying a firearm may not save my life when the time comes without the preparation. For example I was a decent target shooter but when I had to draw from a concealed holster you would have thought that I had never shot before. I could hardly hit the target. This was one of the new skills taught in John’s classes.

Everyone has a different reason for taking the classes. There were some very interesting stories and reasons for taking the pistol training classes.

It is easy to see how much John truly cares about what he is teaching. Every year he is updating his class content to give his students the best training possible.

I have seen John take one lady whom had never really shot pistols and was afraid of them when the class began. He was able to make her comfortable with the pistol and recoil. When the class started she was lucky to hit any part of the target at the 3-yard line. By the end of the class she was running the glock model 19 (9mm) like a pro hitting the target at long distances. She stopped being a shooter and became a hitter. She was constantly on target.  PS: a shooter is someone just pulling the trigger hoping to hit the target. Just remember that you can’t miss the target fast enough! 15 rounds do nothing if you never hit the target. Slower well placed shots work. Speed comes with practice.

It is well worth the price of admission for the top-notch training. Consider it an investment in yourself and safety of your family or just come for the enjoyment of the fellowship and training.

Plus how many people can say they took a class and shot 800-1200 rounds over the 2 days.
